Yes. It happened to me when I used the wrong spark plugs on my celica. If you're using the correct spark plugs and its still running lean it could be an in take leak, faulty maf sensor, dirty fuel filter or injectors.
Replace the spark plug wires. Also, be on the lookout for something that could cause a lean condition such as vacuum leaks and fuel flow restrictions.
are you having a check engine light stating "engine too lean?" if so replace all o2 sensors.change spark plugs and especially air filter.rest code and see what happens.
When the engine is not firing on all cyclinders or has bad spark or lean or rich fuel it will cause the light to flash. Mine did this and I had a loss of power. I replaced the spark plugs and wires. It stopped the light and I got my power back as well as got more mpg.
to change the plugs, remove the air filter element - lean over engine to back and unscrew plugs and replace same with new ones
Too rich and you will get black smoke from exhaust. You can also read the spark plugs. way too rich and the engine will bog down or flood out in extreme situations. If it's running too lean, the rpms will get erratic.
Change your gas cap.
A good way of checking how your car is running is by checking the spark plugs, If the injectors on a petrol engine are clogged then the engine will be running extra lean. The spark plug may look like the secomnd example on this sit http://www.ngksparkplugs.com/tech_support/spark_plugs/faqs/faqread.asp
either its running to lean or you have a bad exhaust valuve
Running too lean
An engine needs 13 parts air to one part fuel to run at peak efficiency. If there is too much air, the engine will run hot (lean condition). If there is too much fuel the engine will run cooler (rich condition), but not consume all the fuel, sending it out the exhaust. By adding aftermarket exhaust, you are allowing the engine to breathe better and get air more readily. Re-jetting the carbs with bigger needles will allow more fuel into the combustion chamber to offset the increase in air. More air + more fuel = more power. Not re-jetting will cause an excessively lean condition (too much air), which will cause the engine to run hotter (if it will run at all). You run the risk of burning valves which is very bad. This is the opposite of fouling spark plugs, which happens when the engine is too rich.
sounds like the motor is running lean, not enough fuel.
Spark Plugs versus "heat in the cylinder"While the NKG MAY result in a very SLIGHTLY higher spark temperature, it WILL NOT cause the fuel combustion temperature to increase. This is because the combustion temperature of any fuel is a result of the fuel and air mixture ratio, which spark plugs do not affect.I went to blaster forum and most people said it wasn't a spark plug problem. I just installed new intake & exhaust gaskets. I should have re-jetted the carb. More than likely I was running too lean after gaskets. Now I can rebuild motor.
