Yes, but it takes a long, long time and can lead to complications. You could get rheumatic fever and that could also kill you. If it gets in the blood stream (if any bacteria gets there) you will get very sick and possibly die. Strep is very treatable so there is no reason not to get atibiotics.

Most of the patients recover regardless of treatment. Your immunity will cure you of bacteria in some of the patients and all of them do no become chronic carrier. All the carriers also do not remain as carrier, indefinitely.
