True, sugar does not cause pain directly, but it does cause inflammation in the body. So, if you already have low grade inflammation somewhere in your body (joint or otherwise) the sugar can increase the inflammation and you will experience pain.

It usually takes about 3 hours for the pain to show up after eating something sweet. This can be anything from a cookie to an orange and sugar is put into almost all packaged foods and condiments. Your body doesn't know the difference between the types of sugar. The best way to lessen the pain from eating something sweet is to drink lots of water afterwards to dilute the sugar.
