A tapeworm can be very harmful to you. If you are experiencing vomiting, abdominal pain, and diahreah (i'm not all that sure how to spell it.) then visit an emergency room IMMEDIATLY. It may not be tapeworms, but it could be something either more or less serious. A tapeworm lives in your intestines and lays over one million eggs each day! so make sure that you seek medical help as soon as you are feeling these symptoms!

No, but since they grow to be extremely long, they can cause anemia and a nutritional deficiency, as well as possible other medical problems, so you need to see your doctor for it.

Why don't tapeworms die out with medication?

Because of environmental contamination. Tapeworms shed eggs into the environment and those eggs then turn into the next generation of tapeworms. Treatment of tapeworms with medication only kill the adult tapeworms currently residing in that animal, but the environment and other animals remain a source of eggs and adult tapeworms.

How do you kill a tapeworm?

Tapeworms are usually treated with a single dose of medicine taken by mouth. Commonly used medicines for tapeworms are praziquantel (Biltricide) and albendazole (Albenza). These medications kill the tapeworms. The dead tapeworms then dissolve or pass from your body with bowel movements. If worms are large, you may have cramping when they pass. Your doctor will recheck stool samples at one and three months after you finish treatment. When tapeworms are confined to the intestines, appropriate treatment gets rid of them in more than 95% of people.
