Animals on which drugs are tested are typically euthanized following completion of the study. This is done because the animals are a biased pool for future studies (i.e they have already received one treatment which is not typical of the population) and are therefore not useful for other studies. Additionally, there are two primary responses which a study would explore: acute and chronic. The vast majority of testing is acute toxicity testing because chronic toxicity requires a much longer time period and is often less applicable to humans than acute. Acute studies involve applying very large doses to determine the lowest observed adverse effect level, lowest lethal dose (the dose at which the first animal dies), the LD50 (the dose at which 50% of the population dies), and the absolute lethal dose (the dose at which every administered creature dies). In that regard, the studies primarily focus on how much it takes to kill an animal, and the survivors are later euthanized.

Yes, it does. They check to see if the product will cause any initial reaction or allergy on the animals before they put it out on market. The product can injure, sicken, or kill an animal, and it's very cruel.

Quite often yes. Some tests involve for example squirting shampoo into rabbits eyes to see if it's harmful Other testing involves putting probes into cats/dogs/monkey's brains to see how they react to certain stimuli. The Beagles who are forced to smoke cigarettes are legendary. I'd rather companies paid humans to test products.

It depends on the drug, and the animal.

If the drug is a harmful one like heroine or cocaine, or cannabis, etc. etc., then yes it is wrong to test it on drugs. If the drug is not harmful, such as tranquilizing drugs and such, then it can be tested on animals but of course, to a certain degree. Also make sure to seek a vet before testing any drug on animals, because some drugs will have a different effect on animals than on human beings, and you might accidentally injure the animal internally.

Now, sometimes it also depends on the animal. If you are conduction a research (permitted research), then not animals should be considered as test subject, some animals will react differently with different drugs. Plus, try to choose an animal that is does not exceed the NT* status, like rats and mice (since they are highly reproductive)

* Near Threatened.

Yes, in most cases, it kills the animals or leaves them severely maimed. There is no humane animal testing. They are subjected to torture until they die.

Testing on Animals can kill them because the drugs or procedures are dangerous and the doctors or vets don't know what the effects are.

What products are ok to test in animals?

I think none! Testing products on animals is animal testing which I strongly disagree with! Animal testing, if it goes wrong its the animal that suffers. Animal testing can put a lot of stress and pain on animals. I think that animals deserve rights to be free of being tested with things that cause them pain and even kill them.

What do they do with the animals that get ill of testing on them?

That probably depends on what country it is, what the state or province is, what local laws are, and the reasons for testing the animal.
