During wartime, the USCG may, at the direction of the President of the United States, report to the Secretary of the Navy; its resources, however, are integrated into U.S. military operations in wartime.
Upon a declaration of war the Coast Guard may be transferred to and operate as a service of the U.S. Navy
If you're asking "Will the Coast Guard become part of the military" the short answer is we ARE one of the five armed forces of the United States. We're part of the Department of Homeland Security, not the Department of Defense. In acts of war we can be transferred to the U. S. Navy, although this hasn't happen since WWII.
The United States Coast Guard operates under the U.S. Department of Homeland Security during peacetime. However, it can be transferred to the U.S. Department of the Navy by the U.S. President at any time, or by the U.S. Congress during times of war.

During peacetime, the U.S. Coast Guard remains at a state of readiness with direction from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Control can also be given to the U.S. Department of the Navy with orders from the President at any time.
The Civil War was a war not a branch of the service. The branches of service are Marines, Army, Navy and Air Force. There is also the National Guard and the Coast Guard.
While for most of his "career" he is portrayed as a civilian sailor, when in the military (ignoring the one "In the Army Now" episode), he was in the Coast Guard (source: Popeye the Sailor Meets Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves he was stationed at a Coast Guard small boat station). Much of the confusion can be caused by two facts: 1) During times of war (eg WWII ) the Coast Guard is transferred to the Department of the Navy. So although he was still a Coastie, he could have been serving on a Navy Ship. (Even today it is not uncommon to find a Coast Guard team serving on a Navy Ship.) 2) During the WWII era, the Coast Guard uniform and the Navy uniform were almost identical, with the minor differences being too small to show in a comic strip. Even today most of the formal uniforms of the two services are identical except for the design on the buttons.
either coast guard or air force
No, the Coast Guard serves under the Department of Homeland Security in peacetime. However, during times of war or when directed by the President, the Coast Guard can be transferred to the Department of Defense to support military operations.

The coast guard does go to war. I am currently in the coast guard and we have been involved in every major war. Not many casualties because our role isn't one involving combat, but we do provide a lot of support. here is a link to the coast guard website that shows which wars we've been involved in: http://www.uscg.mil/History/faqs/wars.asp
The US Army, Marines, Navy and Air Force and the Coast Guard in a time of war. The Army as it was originally is now actually The National Guard. They are the Original Army!
