Yes, an ordinary sore throat can cause as much pain or discomfort as Strep throat. The main differences are the classic white sores on the tonsils seen in Strep Throat. Strep can also cause high fevers in children, but not always. Some children develop no fever or only a low-grade fever, until they are very ill. Some kids who repeatedly get Strep throat stop having ear pain each time; an alternate symptom is stomach pain caused by the specific proteins that bacteria produce that is then swallowed and attacks the stomach walls.
