Can the crank shaft sensor shut the car off then restart without cooling down in a 1989 buick park avenue?

The computer needs the crank and cam sensor signals to know when to send the fire signal to the correct spark plug. If either one has failed or is intermittent the engine will not run. Mine became intermittent after the engine got hot. It would start again after it cooled down.
