In ancient, more superstitious times, it was felt that the devil could possess people and perhaps take hold of their minds. In these more enlightened times, it is recognised that what was once thought of as Satanic mind control is a symptom of mental illness and sufferers are now treated more sympathetically.

The devil can not take hold of your mind; in fact the devil does not even exist.

The Devil CAN possess people, but he is more apt to concern himself with influential types, like government leaders or those, like Judas Iscariot, with the capability to destroy that which God has made.

"...Then entered Satan into Judas surnamed Iscariot..." (Luke 22:3).

Otherwise... he has more than enough "fallen angels" to go around to possess the average person who has no major impact on the plan of God.

Jesus cast demons out of people constantly when He walked the earth in the flesh. Faithless science denies that many of the same maladies those people suffered, still extant in people today, are of demonic origin; and call it a "disease" or "mental sickness," from which the pharmaceutical industry profits abundantly.

While Satan, the Dragon (Rev.12:9), is delighted with the work his demons have been doing from the beginning... he still isn't concerned with possessing the "little guy," as it were... and is presently influencing the confused governments of men, looking forward and working toward the "big job" just ahead of him:

"...and the Dragon gave him (the coming Beast) his power, and his seat, and great authority... and all the world wondered after the Beast. And they worshipped the Dragon which gave power unto the Beast: and they worshipped the Beast..." (Rev.13:2-4).

"...the Devil taketh Him (Jesus) up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth Him all the kingdoms of the world... and saith unto Him, All these things will I give thee..." (Matt.4:8-9).

The governments of man are Satan's, to give to whom he will.

The coming Beast (some call him Antichrist) will succumb to Satan's offer, which will result in the "possession" of his mind by Satan.

Jesus, on the other hand, didn't fall for it and shall bring His own Government back with Him when He returns. Jesus refuted and rebuked Satan at every turn with the quoting of scripture to fend off the Dragon's possession.

The knowledge and understanding and Truth of The Bible is man's only guard against the possession of our minds, through Jesus Christ... whether it's demons... or their leader, Satan the Devil.

Yes, the devil can choke you just by squeezing his arms around your neck but nobody can see him. Therefore the devil can kill anything without anyone who or what it is.
