Can the law take your computer?

If the police or other authorities have reasonable grounds to suspect that evidence may be harboured on the computer, then it will be seized for forensic examination. Also, if you are convicted of a RICO offense, then it can be seized permanently if it was used in any way that facilitated the offense... this is generally construed pretty broadly; if you used Google Maps to plan your escape route, for example, that's probably enough.
