Rest assured that parvovirus is specific to dogs alone and cannot be transmitted to humans or other pets of a different species, such as cats.

  • got this info from http://www.workingdogs.com/parvofaq.htm*

But, however, humans can get a different form of this virus that is often called Fifth Disease. The real name is Parvovirus B19. Another name for it is Erythema Infectiosum which is also called Slapped Cheek Syndrome.

Yes it can be, but not by your dog sneezing on you or anything like that. The only way it can be transmitted to a human is if the human is putting their hands in an area where an animal with parvo has been and then touching their mouth with their hand. Children can get it easier than adults because they can be playing in a sand box where a cat might have used as a litter box. Children can also get it a lot easier because of their weak immune system. The Parvovirus is for both humans and animals, however they show different symptoms for both.

Complete lose in appetite, wont drink much or any at all, severe diarrhea, vomiting, lethargic, weak, and sometimes blood in the stool. When my dog had it he wasn't himself at all. If your dog has or gets parvo you will be able to tell immediately by his behaviour. Well at least i did. He was sick for 2 days before we got him into the vet. Luckily he survived and its been almost a week since we brought him home. This virus can live in its environment for up to 3-4months and extremely contagious. Please get your dog vaccinated, mine only got one shot for it. And he ended up getting sick.

No, canine parvovirus is not contagious to humans. However, humans can carry the virus on their skin or clothing and pass that to another dog, perpetuating the infection.

Can cats get parvo from other cats?

They can get a form of feline Parvo called Panleukopenia Virus. It's alot like the dog's parvo virus but only cats can get it. we had an out break of it when we rescued a new litter of kittens, all of the kittens died because they were unvaccinated, we have 4 older cats who were vaccinated & they are just fine it didnt effect them. Its spread through sharing living area's & eating out of the same bowl, as well as drinking out of the same water dish as an infected cat. Areas infected with feline panleukopenia need to be disinfected with a bleach solution. There is also treatment available. Prevention through routine vaccination is extremely effective.

Can people get parvo?

technically, yes, but it is a completely different virus than the parvovirus dogs get. if your dog has parvo, it is only transmitted between dogs. you will no get it nor will other pets (such as cats).

How long before i can get another dog when i had a dog that died of parvo This was a horriable my first dog dies from parvo and i was just horrified i cried for 3 days- i no your thinking wow?

That should always be your main priority! vaccination for your dog, the parvo virus vaccination, its quite easy for a dog to get the virus as it is caused by cat urine and we all know how many cats are around. If I were you I would get another as soon as you like, but get the vaccination before you even take the dog home or ask the owner of the dog has it had the vaccination as most sellers get this done themselves before selling the pups on.

Can a wallaby get parvo?

The parvovirus that dogs can get is just one of many strains of parvo. Yes, wallabies can succumb to the parvovirus, but it is most unlikely to occur as a result of contact with a dog that carries the virus. Similarly, huamsn can contrct parvo, but it is a completely different strain.

Can a person that has handled a dog with parvo carry parvo to another dog?

If by without parvo you mean a dog that doesn't have the virus at all, then no. HOWEVER, a dog or cat can have parvovirus without showing any signs or symptoms. This animal is a carrier, even though it doesn't seem like it has parvo.

Can a male who had parvo pass parvo sexually?
