By my measurements a 225/70R16 tire will fit a Rav4 with 16" wheels. While the Sport model comes with 18" wheels and a tire size of 235/55r18, the selection of rugged tires is limited, so going to a 16" wheel allows for much greater selection. Key measurement comparison shows that while the 225 is slightly narrower the overall diameter for the 18" wheel 55 aspect ratio is 28.2", the 16" wheel with 70 aspect ratio is 28.4". I have yet to apply this but will in the next few days. My only question or concern will be the handling characteristics of a taller aspect ratio, but going to a quality Michelin tire makes me feel confident.
