When released on parole, the State of Texas will do a time credit audit to make sure your discharge date was calculated accurately. This may move the discharge date.

I know this because it happened to me. My date was set back 3 months due to some back time I was being credited for that I did not serve. I disputed it and got 2 of those months back, so overall I am forced to do 1 extra month on parole.

HOW do you make a petition to oppose parole?

Every state has a parole board, although it may not be called that. The parole board reviews the cases of prisoners coming up for parole, and also hears/reads the petitions of citizens favoring or opposed to parole. By calling the parole board in your state, you can find out the procedures for filing such a petition, and where it should be sent. You may be able to appear before the parole board to make your feelings known in person.

Can a parole officer change the length of time a person is on parole?

An offender's parole term cannot be extended, but probation can. It is possible to be discharged from both early, but early discharges from parole are rare. While parole cannot technically be extended by a Parole Officer, it can be extended by the Parole Board, and can effectively be extended by situations that create "dead time" such as time spent in rehabilitation or in custody for a potential violation of conditions.

How do you get in front of a parole board after you have served your minimum time?

Two ways. Either call your lawyer and ask him/her to set up a parole hearing for you. Or you just wait until the parole board sends you a kite and lets you know that you have a parole date. Just because you have served your minimum sentence though doesnt mean that you are even up for parole or if the parole board even wants to hear your case right now.
