Yes, they can. They are rather good swimmers actually. Leopards in zoos will routinely swim, giving them much needed exercise and helping them to keep cool in hot weather. Jaguars also swim, as do other cat species, such as tigers and fishing cats.
As a hobbyist/ keeper, we are trying to replicate their natural habbitat. In the hot deserts of easter Asia, they would not willingly go "swimming". Therefore in captivity, you should not submerge your leopard gecko in water.
I would say don't put deep water in a crested gecko tank. I mine have swum in the sink at my house in short bursts just long enough to reach the edge and climb out. You might want to try that. One of mine likes to swim more than the other though. I wouldn't put pond in you tank, but I have a waterfall that lands on rocks and trickles down into the pump which is buried under pebbles.
No. they are NOT amphibians, they are reptiles. If you put them in water they will drown
Naturally, these animals would not submerge themselves in water, therefore the animal should not be forced to do it either.
No these animals are not capable of being submerged in water.
A crested gecko is able to keep itself afloat but are not adapted to swimming. Their webbed toes allows them to cause drag in flight when leaping from one area to another.
For most species, swimming is instinct
