Yes, if your health care provider does not follow up properly. Topamax killed my mother in 2007. She was a healthy 41 year old and was taking the medicine for migraine relief and suddenly went into cardiac arrest and lost all brain activity. It was found that the Topamax caused Metabolic Acidosis, which was not caught due to lack of bloodtesting by her doctor. The condition ultimately cause her organs to shut down.
The medication worked great for her, but little did she know, it would take her life. If you are taking topamax, please be on top of your doctor visits and if you start to notice ANY questionable symptoms, go in for bloodwork.
I have had a need to break my teeth. hold them together so hard until they break. Only on topamax.
I don't know if Topamax is the cause yet--but I developed a mysterious rash on my inner thigh after beginning to take Topamax. I have switched laundry detergent, body wash, have not started eating anything new lately, so can't figure out any other possible cause. Rash is listed on the literature as a "rare" side effect of Topamax. I take 200mg per day.
Topamax is often used as a migraine preventive. Side effects may include fatigue.
My husband has been on topamax for about 4 years. He now has osteoporosis and a parathyroid adenoma with constant severe bone pain, extreme exhaustion and night sweats. As soon as we took him off of topamax his pain level improved. I know that topamax can cause osteoporosis. If he weren't a 49 year old fit male, I'm sure they'd just assume the osteoporosis was primary, rather than secondary to a parathyroid problem. I'm convinced everything is related to the topamax, but I have no proof.
My research has found no links between topanax and a positive ANA.
You really shouldn't just quit Topamax cold turkey. Topamax is a med that has to be tapered off slowly just as you were put on the medecine hopefully. If you were to stop suddenly you could actually cause a siezure which could be very dangerous for you and the baby!
No it can not. Topamax, it to ward of headaches. OB will approve.
Topamax can potentially cause sleep disturbances, including abnormal dreams or nightmares, which could lead to night terrors in some individuals. It's important to discuss any concerns with your healthcare provider.
An maoi refers to "monoamine oxidase inhibitors," which is a kind of antidepressant that affects serotonin and dopamine levels in the brain. Topamax is a medication that alleviates migraine headaches. Topamax is not an maoi.
Topamax (topiramate) is not intended for weight loss. The side effects can be severe.
