No, there are other methods. One sometimes called the "shotgun" method takes microscopic tungsten pellets, coats them with the genetic material to be inserted, places them in a microscopic "gun", places the gun aimed at the organ to be treated and fires it with a pulse of air or water. A tiny fraction of the tungsten pellets enter cells, a fraction of those enter the nucleus, and in a fraction of those nuclei the material incorporates somewhere randomly into one or more chromosomes.

What 'tools' are used in gene therapy?

Viral vectors are the tools used in gene therapy.

What uses viruses to help people with genetic disorders?

Gene therapy is designed to introduce genetic material into cells to compensate for abnormal genes, or to make a beneficial protein. If a mutated gene causes a necessary protein to be faulty or missing, gene therapy may be able to introduce a normal copy of the gene, restoring the function of the protein. Viruses are used in gene therapy as vectors that are genetically engineered to deliver the new copy of the gene by infecting the cell.

What particles are often used as vehicles to transmit replacement dna to cells during gene therapy?

One of the most common vectors used to transmit new DNA into cells is a plasmid. This is a small, circular piece of DNA found in bacteria.Other vectors used include; viral vectors, cosmids and artificial chromosomes.

What is one obstacle gene therapy faces?

Gene therapy is considered as a risky business as it has a chance of promoting cancer if the inserted DNA placed in a wrong place (locus). Gene therapy is aimed to cure genetic diseases by inserting DNA or gene as a drug in the tissue or cells. Viral vectors are the vehicles used for this purpose.

What is the difference between cloning and expression vectors?

Cloning vectors are used to increase the number of copies of the cloned gene or to amplify a foreign gene. Expression vectors are used to increase the expression of the foreign gene product.

How is biotechnology used in microbiology?

Biotechnology is used to remove a gene from one species and insert that gene into another species, to remove a gene from a species, modify it, and reinsert it into the same species, to make hormones for animals, to make insulin, etc.

Commonly used vectors include?

B. Viruses

How are viruses benificial for humans?

One use for viruses as of late has been gene therapy. Certain retroviruses can be used to splice in engineered genes into patients in the hope of treating genetic disorders.

How could gene therapy be used to treat cancer?

With the help of Gene therapy we can replace or supress the cancer gene

How gene therapy might be used to treat cytic fibrosis?

In cystic fibrosis there is an inherited gene that you have that is causing it, so if gene therapy is used, you can replace the gene with the effected one

How does gene therapy effect children?

Gene therapy effects children by helping to cure disease and to lengthen lives. Gene therapy can also be used to eliminate diseases that are inherited.

How do humans use virus to treat cancer?

I have embed a video to give an idea about viral vectors used in Gene therapy and cancer therapy. The basic here is the engineered virus used as a vector is not going to be infectious, but they enter the target cell and may integrate or deliver the therapeutic molecules.
