Yes and no. Water is an excellent coolant but does not have all the properties of antifreeze. Water provides no freeze protection or corrosion resistance.

What chemicals are used in engine coolant?

Ethylene glycol and water with corrosion inhibitors

Why coolant water is used in car bus truck etc why simple water is not used in vehicles?

Engine coolant contains certain chemical properties that water does not. Coolant is used in cars, busses, trucks, and other vehicles, and it is never recommended to use water unless it is only a short-term fix until you can get more coolant. The main difference is freezing point. If you use water as coolant in the winter, it will likely freeze and crack your engine block. In the heat, water boils much faster and produces more heat.

What an engine cools better water or coolant?

Coolant I believe.

What is the purpose of engine coolant?

Antifreeze, or engine coolant, is a liquid used to transport heat away from an engine. Antifreeze is mixed with water to lower the freezing point of the liquid to protect components in cold temperatures.

What is water's function?

Water pumps are belt driven pumps used to circulate engine coolant (50/50 water and antifreeze) through the engine, around the combustion chambers. Passages direct coolant near the intake and exhaust ports & spark plugs. As the engine reaches normal operating temperature, A thermostat opens and allows coolant to flow through the radiator, cooling the coolant, and then returning back to the engine. Tom

Why is water used as a coolant in the engine of a car?

Water is not used in most modern cars, or at least is not recommended. If it is used, it is because it is cheap and easy to find and will do the job .

Can no coolant in reservoir cause engine not to start?

Coolant is used to keep an engine in a vehicle at a temperature safe for operation. If no coolant is in the reservoir, an engine will not start.

Is your engine coolant supposed to move once the engine is on?

The coolant should circulate through the entire water system.

What is the ratio of engine coolant over water for a 1994 Toyota corolla?

Ok, 50/50 is pretty much the norm. Coolant is not what keeps your engine cool, the water is. The coolant is what keeps the water from freezing in cold weather as well as from causing corosion to your engine.

Why is water used as a coolant for the radiator in cars?

Water alone is not used as coolant for automobiles.
