I just replaced my fuel pump on my 2000. You do not have to drop the tank. The tank is in front of the deep trunk. It is installed vertically and the sending unit/fuel pump assembly is located in the center of the tank. Problems I had was losening the wiring harness . We pulled the harness off the frame, had enough slack to just remove the unit (6 sm. bolts) and replaced the pump only under the car!
