No, You can not always see the flames of a muck fire. It may be a Muck "Smolder" ....tht's what my Grandmother called it when Highway 92 between Auburndale and Lakeland would be black with what looked like a dark smelly fog that had rolled in, but it was a muck fire.....burning just below the ground. It seemed like they would burn for weeks. Every once and awhile flames would break through the muck and reach the thick undergrouth in the swamp and then a Hugh hot fire would follow......Muck fires can burn during a hard rain too.

Yes, fire flames produce photons as a result of the high temperatures causing atoms and molecules in the flames to emit light energy. These photons are the visible light that we see when a fire burns.

Symbolism The volunteer firefighter on page 15 says, "Muck fires don't go out. They're burning all the time.... Sometimes the rain'll damp them down, but they're still smoldering." What is Paul's muck fire that is always burning? What are the muck fires for Paul's parents, for Erik, for Antoine Thomas? At the end of the book, the wind has shifted and the odor and smoke from the muck fire is blowing away from Paul. Is that symbolic of what has happened in Paul's life? On page 244 as he digs in the ground behind his home on the day of Luis's funeral, Paul admits that he is finally seeing things that he has never seen before. What can he now see on page 244? What is the dirt of his life that was "burned, buried, plowed, coated and landscaped?"

Why can't you see fire in space?

Fire needs oxygen to burn, and space is a vacuum with no oxygen. Without oxygen, fire cannot ignite or sustain itself. Additionally, in the absence of gravity, flames burn in a spherical shape, which may not be easily visible from a distance.

What happens when you open a door to a heated room into an unheated room?

When you open a door to a heated room (no fire), the heat should flow into the unheated room in an attempt to reach equilibrium. If there's fire in the closed room, the flames will grow when you open the door because there's more oxygen in the room you're in (and by the way, that's something you should never do in a fire... when your house is on fire, always check the door to see if it's warm before you open it).
