Yes, you can take a bath at any time when you have the measles. However, here are some important things to know:
Do NOT bathe 2 children together who both have the measles; do NOT reuse the same water to bathe another child; make sure to thoroughly clean the tub AND give time for the tub to dry before the next child bathes. A child could react negatively to smelling bleach.
BE SURE THAT----
1. NO ONE ELSE USES THAT TOWEL AND WASHCLOTH.
2. YOU LAUNDER THE ITEMS YOU USED RIGHT AWAY, DON'T LET THEM SIT WET WITH OTHER LAUNDRY.
3. USE ONE-HALF CUP OF BLEACH IN A BUCKET OF FRESH HOT WATER... POUR IT ON THE SIDES AND BOTTOM OF THE TUB; RINSE LIBERALLY WITH A SHOWER HOSE OR A BUCKET OF FRESH WATER. RINSE THE TUB VERY WELL.
4. As always, use caution when using bleach. Do NOT mix it with other cleaning products.
* If you or the child does not feel well enough for a tub bath, just wash up at the sink. Same advice as above: very little or no soap, tepidly warm water (not hot), pat dry, don't use powders or perfumes, and keep laundry separate and wash those items soon after using them.
Yes, a child with measles should be given a bath. An oatmeal bathe would decrease the itching the child has. A bath will also relax the child and aid in falling asleep.

Children who have measles., or have had the disease in the previous four weeks, have a substantially increased risk of developing severe or fatal diarrhea or dysentery (there is some evidence that the increased risk lasts up to six months after measles). Because of the strong relationship between measles and serious diarrhea, and the effectiveness of measles vaccines, measles immunization is a very cost-effective measure for reducing diarrhea morbidity and deaths. Measles vaccine given at 9 months of age can prevent up to 25% of diarrhea-associated deaths in children under 5 years of age.
Treatment includes bed rest, lots of fluids and medicine for fever and headache. Antibiotics do not help -- either to cure measles or to prevent it. There are no anti-viral drugs for treating measles.
