Unless you actually have a contract with your employer where there is a clause that says that "your employment can be terminated without cause", then more than likely you cannot be fired.
And no employer has any obligation whatsoever to write you any kind of reference, good, great, or awesome, so you can get another job.
It's not an entitlement for any employee unless it's in your employment contract that they have to.
Furthermore, if they are willing to write a great reference for you, that shows that they want you find a job quicker so you are not unemployed.
