No, you cannot bow hunt anywhere. Most places have seasons for hunting certain animals, and that also means that only certain animals can be hunted in that season. However, depending on your location, hunting may be totally illegal, so it is good to check with your state's (or province's or country's) fish and game officers before hunting.

Although there are bows designed specifically for bowfishing (fishing with bow and arrow), any bow can be used for this purpose. The difference between a bow used primarily for hunting and one used primarily for fishing is the fishing bow usually has fishing-line (or other thin, light-weight and strong line) attached to it; a hunting bow does not.

The fishing-line is also attached to the arrow, enabling the retrieval of both arrow and fish. Arrow shafts used for bowfishing are usually made of fiber-glass, which is not ruined by getting wet. Aluminum-tubing shafts are normally too light-weight for use in bowfishing, and those that are heavy enough are too large to be effectively - or easily - used. Steel shafts tend to rust, and carbon-fiber shafts tend to be too light-weight, so they are also not normally used.

Bowfishing is a fun and marvelous way to go fishing, and almost any type of fish which can be caught by using rod-and-reel can also be caught by using bow and arrow. Gar, which is a big fresh-water fish, have been "reeled in" by people using bows, as have Northern pike, river sturgeon, bass, crappie, trout, muskies, perch, and many other fresh-water fish. Some salt-water fish have even been caught by using a bow.
