Yes.

If she hadn't had babies before then you would be risking hers or her babies' lives. Her bones would have moved into a position where the babies might not fit out because her body thinks she isn't going to have babies. But if you mate her before she is 9 months then she will always be able to have babies.

Your guinea pig just had babies and you touched them will she abandon them?

no, unlike hamsters guinea pigs will happily let you touch or handle her babies, if the babies do not get distressed and you are very quiet you can hold them. you can even put another older female in with the mother and the female will help out and the mother can rest. if you give them some soft vegetables or bread and milk the babies will even take a nibble sometimes, they are very well developed. i know i used to breed guinea pigs

Can a boy guinea pig be older than the girl when they breed?

yes they most certainly can

How many babies can a guniea pig have?

A female guinea pig will have 1-4 in her first litter and up to 8 babies in her second litter. Also up to 8 in litter later on. But the average amount of babies born in a litter is about 4 or 5. If you want to breed a female guinea ppig make sure you breed her for the first tim ewhen she is between 5-9 minths old. if she has her first litter when she is older there is a risk of the mother or babies dieing. The reason for this is because the female guinea pigs hips will come closer together after she is 9 months of age and the babies could get stuck causing death. You can breed the female as much as you want after this first litter because her hips wont come closer together after she has had a litter

How do you determine the age of a guinea pig?

Well, If they are growing length wise they are 0-8 months old. If they are growing in width(fatter) They are a year or older. If you are wanting to breed, don't breed it its older than a year...Well the males can be, but not the Females.(:

How old do female guinea pigs have to be to get them pregnant?

Male guinea-pigs can start mating when they are as young as 3 weeks old, although it is recommended that you make sure they been bred by six months old to make them a breeder.Female guinea pigs can start having babies when they are three months old, however, it is highly recommended that you don't mate them when they are over a year old, due to pelvis bone fusion. A female guinea pig any older than a year old will have a dead litter before she will be able to produce a live litter.

What age should guineapigs be to breed?

male g/pigs can breed as soon as they are 4 weeks old but its good to wait until they are 6-7weeks before starting. Same with females they can breed as soon as they are 5-6weeks old but again wait until they are 7-8weeks old before breeding with them.

What age can a guinea pig have babies?

Guinea pigs can reproduce at the age of 4 weeks. You are NOT supposed to breed your guinea pig well you can, but you shouldn't because for 1. There is a very high risk of them dyeing if they are not an experienced mother 2. They are over populated. 3. Guinea pigs are not very popular and you may have nowhere for the babies to live. Hope I Help, *G-PIGGY-LUVER* If the guinea-pig is over a year then you shouldn't allow it to get pregnant.

Why cant male and female guinea pigs not be housed together?

They could be put into a cage together. However, if there is a female guinea pig in the cage with them, that's not a good idea. As they get older they tend to get more aggressive.

How old before a female pig can have babies?

Actually, the question should be: "How young must they be?". For their first litter, a pig must be older than two months and younger than six months to be impregnated.Don't wait too long if you are going to breed them. When the female guinea pig doesn't have any offspring for about a year or two their pelvic bones fuse making it impossible for them to have babies. Ideally they would be between two and four months when they fall pregnant. But no two guinea pigs are exactly the same.ANSWER:The best time for guinea pigs to have babies are between 5-8 months old. It can be dangerous for them if they get pregnant before or after then. But it's always best NOT to breed them at all!! Because it can be just plain dangerous at any age! These animals are rodents and can breed at a young age. They just need to be at least 4 months old. Breeding young is not advised. Wait until the animals are 6 months or more.

What is the youngest age rabbits can mate and have babies?

it depends on the breed. larger breeds tend to be older, and smaller tend to be younger. an average is 5-6 monthes.

Would a female guinea pig get along with a baby guinea pig?

Yes, but make sure when the baby grows up you separate them if you do not want babies if the baby guinea pig is a male. At about 3 to 4 months. not a male baby older then 4 weeks....yes at 4 weeks a male baby can get females pregnant .... even if it is the mother or sisters ,, ^^ The brother can't get the sister pregnant - I've read it in books before. ^^

I have a Guinea pig and want to breed it has anybody got facts about breeding guinea pigs?

Well firstly I'd just like to question your decision on breeding your guinea pig. There are already hundreds of piggies without homes because so many people breed them, so if I were you I wouldn't introduce any more. If you are still really want to breed your guinea pig, and you are breeding your guinea pig for the first time, she needs to be young. I don't know the exact ages, you will need to research this, but the best age to breed a female guinea pig is and about 12 weeks old (I THINK). You should not breed them any younger than 6 weeks or any older than about a year. If your guinea pig is too old to breed for the first time (over a year old) it will be painful for her as the pelvic bones will have grown to be solid and she will struggle whilst giving birth. Also, your female guinea pig should be given extra food whilst pregnant and for a week or two after her babies are born (at which point the father should be long separated). She may also need extra vitamin C and calcium whilst feeding her babies. You should try and disturb her as little as possible, but give her a quick check regularly to make sure everything is okay. When your female guinea is nearly due to give birth, take her off of straw, hay or woodshavings, etc because these can make her 'bits' irritated. She should have fleece bedding and have a nice and cosy, private dwelling where she can relax and give birth when the time comes. I hope this helps, but please remember my first point, that there is a lot of guinea pigs with out homes out there !
