It's not a good idea. She must have no contact with intact males of course, who will be extremely determined to bred with her. What many people fail to realize is that she probably shouldn't be around females or neutered males either. There is a reason the term for a female dog ("bitch") has developed its connotation in slang. Bitches in season tend to be very moody. They are sometimes amorous but are more likely, at least during the first and third weeks, to be cranky and aggressive toward other dogs of either gender.

∙ 12y agoNo, most veterinarians will not agree to spay a dog whilst she is in heat. Wait until she has finished her heat cycle before spaying.
