Well sort of - but be aware the word "contagious" is rather a misnomer. I think you mean if you are staying by yourself in a hotel and there is a bedbug infestation affecting your bedroom which results in female bedbugs laying their eggs in your holdall which you then unwittingly take back to your home, and then when the bedbug nymphs eggs hatch in your home will the bedbugs necessarily come to you to feed in your bed rather than to other people's beds also living in your home. The answer is they may be attracted by the CO2 breath when asleep ofwhoever's bed happens to be nearest. That may or may not be your bed or else somebody else's bed in your home. Once they have found food (i.e. a bed with somebody asleep in it) they can feed off, that will usually become their base very near where that particular person sleeps. But if several people sleep in very close proximity bedbugs may alternate on different nights to feed off different people's blood in the same bedroom or dormitory. If the bedbugs in one person's bed then multiply and become an infestation, that problem will very likely spread into other people's beds in that home or sometimes in nearby apartments or homes as well.

Not really.

If you have bedbugs, they are liable to crawl on you and lay eggs on your skin.

When you transport the eggs to a different spot like your friends couch, you could accidentally leave eggs there.

Yes, definitely. In fact, it is one of the most common ways to get bed bugs. So many people come and go in hotels, that it's easy to start an infestation. And if you stay in a room with bugs, they can get in your luggage and come home with you, even over a long trip. Always check the hotel room for signs of bed bugs, and then make sure you vacuum your bags and wash everything once you get back.

Yes. Bed bugs can spread by hiding in a persons belongings. If you've ever stayed in a hotel room with bed bugs, you may have a chance of finding them in your luggage or even in your own home since they've had the chance to get inside your suitcase and then once again escape when you've opened it, back at home. An infested household may also infect their visitors, as the bugs may hide in the clothing currently on the body if the person has stayed in the house long enough or has sat or laid down anywhere in the house.

BedBugs will bite in a hotel or anywhere else. Unlike other parasites such as a tick they do not live on their host. They bite / feed then return to their hiding places.

Theses nasty creatures will hitch a ride home with you but not on you. They will hide in your luggage, shoes, clothes, or anywhere they can that is hidden from the light.

Is staying in a rented home in Austin cheaper than staying in a hotel?

When considering the cost differences of staying in a hotel vs. renting a home, one of the biggest factors is how long you will be staying in the area. If you will be in the area longer than a month, it may be worth it to rent a home. Less than a month and it will probably be cheaper to rent a hotel room. Hotels often have extended stay rates as well.

You stayed at a hotel with bedbugs What should you do?

If it was a serious infestation, when you leave that hotel you need to take appropriate measures to try to avoid bringing any live bedbugs or bedbug eggs home with you. Otherwise you could bring the hotel's bedbug problem with you into your home. You could spray the inside of all your luggage with a powerful insecticide as well as all clothes you had with you in the hotel. A better idea could be when you get home if possible do not bring your luggage or clothes that were in the hotel into your home at all. Instead if you can afford to just burn the lot outside and as far away from your home as possible.

How likely is it that your cat will bring home bedbugs?

Your cat is out of the bed bugs menu, so it will not bring home any bed bugs... it could bring tics, or fleas. That you need to be looking out for. The fleas are removed easily with a flea collar, cats don't respond too well to other medication methods. The tics on the other hand, since they take a while to get attached to the cat and suck on it's blood, will fall off the cat into your house, and find some other living thing to latch on to. So don't worry about the bed bugs, they don't care for animals.
