In the lease you must have an insurable interest which includes a lease situation which would give you insurable interest and allow you to purchase insurance on the vehicle. If you do not own the vehicle or have an insurable interest in the vehicle then you cannot purchase insurance on the vehicle. If you and another person own a vehicle together whereby you both are listed on the title then this would also give you enough interest to by an insurance policy on the vehicle. In this case you would also need to list the other party on the policy as well in order to cover their interest also.
