You can, but you risk overheating your Power Steering pump and rack. Not good for the seals and they will leak for sure after a while.
Yes. I have a 1994 and It has a power steering cooler mounted behind the grilll next to the radiator. It looks like a mini-radiator. Mine is currently rusted out and leaking. There are lines (rubber) that run to and from the cooler that are kind of tucked under the front bumper. I get a puddle of power steering fluid that drips down from the cooler and ends up under the front bumper near the driver side wheel.
It's a real pain. If you have access to a hoist, the easiest way to do it is to disconnect the steering shaft and lower the rear of the sub-frame to get access to the fittings on the steering rack. Had to do this once because the loop in the line used as a cooler rusted out.
If you have an oil cooler, it's possible that the lines have become rusted and are leaking.
That's an odd one. It might be trans cooler lines running from the radiator to the trans. They are metal, and run right along the firewall by the drivers side. It is possible they are rusted and rotted, leaking fluid down the firewall, where it is making its way in through any small hole, like for a steering shaft. Check them out.
