No, not unless you've stuck it where it doesn't belong anyways, such as inside the fuel filler or the exhaust pipe.

The ECM is not a restriction. It is a functional unit which provides important functionality for the engine and some other features. It is possible to achieve similar functionality through use of other add-on or replacement systems, making the ECM redundant. If the ECM is COMPLETELY redundant, it can me removed without any harm.
