Is it possible to change the rear window in a soft top Mazda Miata without having to change the entire top?
Yes, remove the upper carpet near the rear window, remove the three piece metal bar holding the top in, separate the window from the rain rail by drilling the pop rivets out and take the rear section to the boat canvas shop. Miata's with glass windows are heat sealed in, and the entire top has to be replaced. Unfortunately I discovered this after someone vandalized mycar by busting the rear window out.

I do have a soft top that had a plastic rear window which was replaced with a glass one. I bought my car used and I was told that the replacement kit and work is expensive. I have a '94 Miata and my back window is pretty busted up. I was getting ready to shell out the $400 dollars for a new back window + labor fees to have it installed, when I came across two excellent DIY rear window replacements. They're a little tedious and time consuming, but will only cost you around $30-$50 rather than a large sum of cash. It involves cutting out the back window and carefully glueing in a new plastic piece. Both websites go into great detail with the instructions and have pictures. If you're interested in trying this task yourself to save a chunk of change, the websites are either; jimmypribble.com (look for Mazda miata rear window replacement).
