A formal region is like something that is concrete for everyone, ex: Florida is a formal region because it is like statistics, it is the same no mater how you look at it. While a vernacular region can be different for everyone, ex: if you asked someone to different the South. Some people would say just say all of the bottom of the United states and others could say Texas and east of Texas. A Functional region is the easiest one, it is a region that is organized around a node, or central point, like a city or the New York Metropolitan area that covers parts of several states

Vernacular regions are based on people's perceptions and feelings towards an area, formal regions have clearly defined boundaries and characteristics, and functional regions are centered around a focal point with interconnected activities and relationships. Each type of region helps us understand different aspects of human geography in unique ways.
