as of 08/30/09, a final ruling was issued by Homeland Security that "closed loop" cruises, that is where you leave and return to the same port regardless of the locations of the stops along the way, you do not need a passport. Birth certificate and drivers license will be enough. Birth Cert. must be the original. Drivers License or state ID must be valid. There are a few other documents that are acceptable but you should visit www.state.gov for the Dept. of State for further advice and direction.
Effecting June 1, 2009, any travel to the Bahamas will require a passport. You can find this info on http://travel.state.gov
If you are a US citizen and the ship departs and returns from a port in the US, you can cruise to the Bahamas, or throughout the Caribbean, with a certified copy of your birth certificate (raised seal) and a government issued photo ID (drivers license). You will not need a passport. If you are flying to any location outside the United States to board the ship, you will need a passport. And if you are not a US citizen, you will need a passport and may need a Visa to enter the Bahamas.
As of 12/09 when my family cruised to the Bahamas you could still used your birth certificate . My friend used hers with no problem out of Miami Fl. . Cruise line says being that it was a closed loop cruise meaning you return to the same point that you left the USA .
yes or you can get the passport card that will let you get into the Bahamas
no not at all By: Keith Edit: Keith is incorrect as of June 1, 2009. You will need a passport to fly into the Bahamas, or a passport card to sail to the Bahamas. You can check the answer athttp://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw/cis/cis_989.html
Yes, any out of country travel now requires a passport
Yes, new Homeland Security rules require you to carry a passport whenever leaving the USA.
Yes you will need a passport if the sailing is after June 2009. But if you are traveling before that you can still use your birth certificate.
To fly into Mexico you HAVE to have a passport. As of right now the only way you can get into Mexico without a passport is by land travel, but that will change as of Summer 2009. As of Summer 2009 you will need a passport for any land travel into Mexico and Canada.
Not until the summer of 2009. HOWEVER it is good to remember that the airlines have been requiring it as of last year and if you need to fly home in an emergency from Mexico for any reason you would not be able to without a passport. It of course depends on your nationality.
Yes. Everyone entering the US by boat or air or foot must have a US Passport for reentry. This became effective in June 2009.
yes you do Update: Effective June 1, 2009, if you are a US citizen and taking a cruise that departs from and returns to the same US port, you do not need a passport (but you will need a certified copy of your birth certificate or naturalization papers and a government-issued photo ID).
