Depends on the tree!I suppose it depends on the type of tree. Cutting off the top area of a tree is generally called pruning. However, a palm tree cannot be topped without killing the tree.

∙ 11y agoReputable arborists say no. It distorts the shape and growth pattern of the evergreen, especially conifers. If the tree is too large for its site, then it should be removed and replaced with a more suitably sized specimen.
