The best way to detox opiods is a to drink plenty of water, exercise( sweat glands cause opiods to come out) and good ole fashion time if of course you dont use them again. 72 hours is the time frame maybe more because some substances hide in the fatty tissues. It does take 72 hours for opiods to leave your system, no sooner. Opiod detox is dangerous cause you could have a seizure in these 72 hours. You cant stop drugging drugging, you cant stop smoking smoking, & you cant stop drinking drinking! There are a few ways to do this. Methadone, suboxone, or subutex can be used to do this. Methadone can be used starting with 25 mgs & move down 5mgs a day for 5 days. Subutex can be used starting with 8mgs(2mgs every 6 hours) & come down 2mgs a day till finished always getting a dose in the am and filtering out the miday doses and getting a dose at bedtime. Suboxone which has naltrexone in it which is a blocker for opiods to the brain also start with 8mgs and work your way down in 2mgs a day till finished. Very important that before starting these medications you wait 24 hours since your last use of opiods. Make sure you are experiencing withdrawal symptoms. Drink plenty of water since detoxing will lower your blood pressure & water will help raise blood pressure. Motrin for any body aches or uncomfortablenesss. Once you are detoxed you will experience sleeplessness but your doctor could prescribe you trazadone. Good luck to you & get involved in the 12 steps of AA or NA & it will change your life

The length of time a person can expect to spend in active detox can vary, depending on the amount of drugs the person was accustomed to taking and the length of time the person has been using drugs. Some people can get through the entire process in just a few days, while others might experience symptoms for a longer period of time. In general, when a person feels calm, relaxed and free of intense physical distress, the process is considered complete and people are encouraged to take the next step toward recovery.

It takes about 5-10 days for the worst of the withdrawals to end, after that, it takes about 3 weeks to get your energy and motivation back, but certain vitimins and exercise help boost endorphins to make you feel like you can actually go on without curling up into the fetal. 5-10 days may not seem like a long time, but trust me, one hour of withdrawing "cold turkey" seems like one day. I suggest going to a doctor to see if he or she can slowly wean you off whichever opiate you are currently addicted to, or try to get ahold of Suboxone, the miracle drug for coming off opiates. All physical withdrawal symptoms are gone, as well as the drug craving. After detoxing, however, you still have quite a while to go to feel "normal" again. I've been there. It's no fun at all. Good luck and take care.

No. The opiates will only increase the urge that your body has to use the suboxone, because of a chemical reaction in the brain that leads to a feeling of dire need for stress relief. They only increase stress and cannot be used for detoxification.

Can you get suboxone in prison?

When detoxing from opiates the suboxone replaces the opiates correct?

In a round-about way, so to speak yes. The suboxone attaches to the receptors that control pain. They keep them occupied so your brain is getting the narcotic from the suboxone in a less abusive way then opiates. Your switching to the lesser of two evils though if you don't get off the suboxone relatively quick (5-7 days) you will still have to go through detox, just then for the suboxone. The key is to not have any opiate left on the receptors, or very little, when you first take suboxone otherwise the two meds fighting for position will cause precipitated withdrawals:( Check "Your Addiction Solutions" for more
