First, literal:

Likely no. Having your buttocks struck is not likely to lead to any situation that could potentially be life threatening. Of course there is the question of degree. If you are struck by a sufficient amount of force, then you can be killed. Typically this requires something far more than the human hand can wield.

Second, colloquial:

In different areas and regions a "but whoppin" or "butt whooping" (phonetically, butt whoopin') refers to a beating, the bludgeoning of one person by another or others by hands, fists, or blunt objects. There are in excess of 500 people in the US who are killed in this manner every year. While this is not a great number as compared to the population of the US, it is still substantial support for the fact that yes, a person can be beaten to death.
