Yes. It all depends on the mother's health, and/or the baby's health. But even though the mother still had good health, unexpected things occur. Some of it is preventable though.

Thanks to modern medical technology, they are very high. If there is any danger of giving birth, the hospital will likely resort to a C-Section instead. It is rare in the modern day for people to die of childbirth. That said, complications can still develop, so while the chances of dying are low, they are still there.
