If you are going to have IV sedation or full general anesthesia during the surgery, you do not want anything in your stomach for at least 12 hours prior to surgery, and that includes water.

Under anesthesia, there is a possibility that you may vomit and aspirate the stomach contents into your lungs. This is a life threatening complication.

Always follow your surgeon's instructions regarding food or drink prior to surgery.

Yes But you will get sick. The Dentist should tell you that you shouldn't eat or drink anything before the surgery. usually water and juice is fine. just avoid it till after to stay safe!

If you really need to drink, you might consider that youy have a drinking problem in addition to any oral issues.

Can you eat or drink anything before ear tube surgery?

Generally: no. The rule of not eating or drinking before surgery isn't therer for the surgery itself, but for the anesthetic. Narcosis is a serious matter, and trying to intubate a person that has eaten something can be very dangerous, as they will vomit and thus possibly inhale some vomit. This leads to aspiration pneumonia, which can be very dangerous and even lethal. Even if you are having surgery that can be done under regional anesthetic, most anesthesiologists will ask you not to eat or drink, as when something goes wrong, they then can just intubate you and deal with almost anything a lot easier.
