If you have a short belt that bypasses the compressor you can drive without air conditioning. If your belt is completely off, you can drive without ac, Power Steering, water pump and alternator for about a quarter mile before your engine overheats.

Can you bypass the ac compressor with a pulley or belt on a 97 jeep wrangler tj?

Have your mechanic run the serpentine belt around the compressor. I had a bad compressor last year, and the mechanic just re-routed the belt until I could afford a new compressor-then he installed it and re-routed the belt again so it would run the compressor. Purchase a serpentine belt the same vehicle but without A/C. The shorter belt will drive all the other accessories and is routed the same as the belt used with A/C, except for the compressor.

What is a drive belt tensioner?

If your vehicle has a serpentine belt that is used to drive the accessories ( alternator , air conditioning compressor , power steering , etcetera ) the serpentine belt has a spring loaded tensioner that is supposed to keep the proper tension on the belt ( if it is working correctly )

Is a serpentine belt the same thing as a generator drive belt?

No, the serpentine belt is used to drive more than one thing and tension is automatically adjust by way of a spring loaded idler pulley. Normally it will drive the alternator, power steering pump, & A/C compressor. A drive belt normally drives only one thing and tension is manually adjusted. A serpentine belt is wider that a drive belt and is not a V-Belt like a drive belt.

How do you bypass the compressor with the serpentine belt?

I presume you mean the A/C compressor. The easiest way is to buy a serpentine belt for the model of the vehicle you have without A/C fitted, and then use that. This is a known temporary cure for roadside assistance.

What is the difference between a serpentine drive belt and a cam belt?

Why does your air conditioning compressor for your car squeal when it is operating?

There can be quite a few reasons as to why the compressor is squealing when the a/c is activated. The most common cause is a loose accessory drive belt (or serpentine belt on some vehicles). Another cause is a loose or weak a/c clutch or possibly a faulty or defective compressor. Try tightening or replacing the accessory drive belt/serpentine belt. If that does not work, have compressor checked at a qualified repair facility.

Is the serpentine belt the same as the drive belt?

The serpentine belt would be the same as the accessory drive belt.

Would a worn serpentine belt cause air conditioner to quit?

Yes a loose or badly worn belt will not drive the compressor correctly and then the belt will break
