Raw foods, especially from animals, have fallen out of favor in the U.S. since WWII. This change in American 'tastes' follow the shift from family farms to industrialized agriculture. Industrially farmed animal products are often not healthy enough to eat raw (and so I'd rather not eat them at all).
Raw fish (like sushi), poultry (such as goose pate), and meats - along with 'fresh squeezed' milk and cream - are eaten daily in other FIRST WORLD countries.
Sadly, with industrial farming even our vegatables are not safe to eat raw (and many are loaded with chemicals that cooking does not remove).

You should not eat raw meat you buy at the grocery store that is not processed for raw consumption. Especially poultry and ground meats are to be avoided as the danger of bacterial contamination and food poisoning is high. Nor do I recommend eating raw meat you prepare yourself.
But raw beef is served as high class cuisine in many restaurants, and if you go to a reputable place you can eat raw meat, just be prepared, as it is pricey.
