It depends, when I have small long pancakes I use my hands and dip it in a cup of syrup. But when I have big fat pancakes I use a fork and knife. Or when I have small pancakes soaked in syrup I just use a fork. But I'm not saying how to eat them, just how I prefer how to eat them.

Why do pancakes not taste very sweet once they soak up the syrup?
Once they soak up the syrup, the chemicals, and therefore tastes, mix, to created a sweetened-flour/wheat taste with a certain amount of salt, depending on the recepie. When you just dip a pancake in syrup and eat it right away, the syrup itself touches your tongue immediately, leaving the pure-sweet taste.
