On Easter Sunday. Also, Lent doesn't count on any Sunday.

Some people also choose to eat what they gave up after 12 PM on Holy Saturday in preparation for the Easter Vigil and Easter Sunday.

AnswerWell, look at it this way: Back in the 1930's and 40's, Lent officially ended at noon on Holy Saturday. When and why it was changed to Lent ending at midnight on Holy Saturday, I don't know, but over the years it changed for some reason. So, if you want to follow "the old way", Lent was over at noon Saturday April 23rd. Roman Catholic AnswerThe depends entirely on what you decide. "Giving up something" for Lent is a purely personal gift that you make to God, it is not required by the Church. If you are giving up some food, keep in mind that Sundays are never, ever considered fast days, along with any major feast - St. Joseph and the Annunciation (plus St. Patrick's Day if you live in Ireland). Also, Lent ends with the beginning of the Mass of the Lord's Supper on Holy Thursday evening, so no matter what you gave up for Lent, Lent is over in the evening of Thursday of Holy Week. Thursday evening, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday are NOT part of Lent, they are their own special season - the shortest of the liturgical year, the Triduum. Remember, giving up something for Lent is a personal decision between you and God (and your confessor or spiritual director). You can give up whatever you thing would be best for you and/or what you think God would like you to give up. If you want to change your mind, mention it in confession and ask your priest for his advice, remember he speaks for God, as he has been ordained God's priest.

Roman Catholics do not eat on the first day of Lent. The first day of Lent is Ash Wednesday which is reserved for fasting. Also, no meat on Ash Wednesday and every Friday thereafter during Lent.

Lent is a time when people give up or start to do something. Fasting (not eating) is not nessacery unless you plan to give up food. :)

Of course... lent is 40 days long (not including all of the Sundays)... you would die if you didn't... be like any other good modern Catholic, and just don't eat meat on Fridays... unless it is fish. Apperently fish are Plants, and since Jesus was a fisherman it is Okay?

Lent is the 40 days leading up to Easter... it starts on Ash Wednesday and runs straight through to Easter... The day before Lent (Mardi Gras to some people) it usually thought of a day of letting go, because for the next 40 days you are SUPPOSED to repent for your sins and do some soul searching...

And not eat meat! I guess this is done so you can imitate Jesus' going into the wilderness for 40 days and living off the land.

When observing lent, you are not supposed to eat meat on Fridays and Ash Wednesday. In fact, Mardi Gras is the day before Lent and Mardi Gras' translation into English means "farewell to meat."

Roman Catholic AnswerChurch law directs that you abstain (not eat meat from land animals) on Ash Wednesday and all Fridays of the year. Additionally the days of fast are Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. Fast, according to the current regulations:

the law of fasting allows only one full meal a day, but does not prohibit taking some food in the morning and evening, while observing approved local custom as far as quantity and quality of food are concerned."

The law of fasting binds all the faithful who have completed their twenty-first year up until the beginning of their sixtieth year. This is GREATLY reduced from pre-1966 law in which fasting was complete from midnight until you took Holy Communion, and on all days of Lent (later commuted to Fridays and Saturdays of Lent), Ember days, and the vigils of certain feasts.

It depends on what your family culture is.

Roman Catholic AnswerThe current regulations call for abstinence (abstaining from meat) on Ash Wednesday and all Fridays of the year. In Lent, there are currently no special regulations except in certain countries who have obtained a dispensation from the Vatican to eat meat on Fridays IF you give something else up. In those countries, the dispensation is not valid during Lent and you must refrain from meat on Fridays. You should also abstain on Holy Saturday, including the fast from Good Friday until the Easter Vigil. On other days of Lent you may now eat meat.
