Yes - choosing quick format does not search for bad sectors and can compromise the reliability of the disk
Your maxtor 3200 Likely has a bad sector.
format /c followed by the name of the drive you want to format.
Bad Sectors are permenent defects on a Hard Disk Drive (HDD). It maybe come from a factory defect, or an external problem. Keep the hard disk safe and away from any magnetic force or dirt and dust and you can prevent having Bad Sectors on your HDD.
either your hard drive is going bad, or your doing a full format witch writes all 0s to the hard disk if you do a quick format it just deletes the registry and the information is over written. It is always better to do a quick long format
The time length for movies on DVD depends on the format of the movie. If the format of the movie is very compressed and bad quality, you could easily get ten to fifteen hours on one disk.
It may be due to bad sectors that cannot be repaired, or depending on the format partition type FAT16, FAT32, or NTFS. It may be you have the physical HD partitioned into logical drives.
A quick format simply erases the file control structures on the partition such as the Master File Table (MFT) on NTFS formatted partitions or the File Allocation Table (FAT) on FAT(32) formatted partitions. A full format also checks the drive for bad sectors and, upon encountering any, adds them to the drives internal list of bad sectors so they will be completely ignored and unused by the file system. When formatting a new disk for the first time or a disk with unknown history it is better to perform a full format. If you are just reinstalling your operating system on a known good drive then a quick format will suffice.
As far as I know, the best way is to make a Low Level Format. You should find the software to perform a Low Level Format depending on the kind of your hard Disk drive. just remember it may take a long time. However, you can use an alternative program to perform a good and deep Scan Disk and fix the bad sectors. the program is called Partition magic.
