The quickest and cheapest route is to take I-85N from ATL to I-77N in Charlotte to I-81N in VA to I-78E in PA to NYC. I-78 merges with the NJ Turnpike-Newark Bay Extension (NJ Turnpike exit 14) for about 8 miles (which I believe is a $1.60 toll) before it ends at the Holland Tunnel (Exit 14C). The toll for the tunnel into Manhattan was $8 as of late 2010.
