Yes it is possible to get a defective HDMI cable. To avoid this do not buy the rock bottom cheapest cable you can find. You do not have to buy the most expensive cable either, but the higher the cost the higher the durability.
Assuming you have already tried unplugging the hdmi cable, and re-attaching it to make sure it is tight..... First, I would figure out if the hdmi output is bad on the DVD player, or if the hdmi input is bad on the tv, or if the hdmi cable is bad. Of course to do this, you would need a second hdmi capable tv, another hdmi source device and another hdmi cable. Once you figure out the source of the problem, decide it that component is worth replacing. Or, just run component.
NO, a HDMI cable is just a HDMI cable. The 240 stuff is just hype.
To connect a PS4 to a cable box, use an HDMI cable. First, connect one end of the HDMI cable to the HDMI OUT port on the PS4 and the other end to an available HDMI IN port on the cable box. Then, connect another HDMI cable from the HDMI OUT port on the cable box to the HDMI IN port on your TV. Ensure the TV is set to the correct HDMI input to see the PS4 display.
if it fits the hdmi port it should work fine either way.
