This depends upon your counselor/psychiatrist - some will write a medical prescription for you to have a service or therapy dog. However, the dog will need to be trained and certified as a service dog before the prescription will mean anything.

I would not recommend purchasing a second dog simply because your first dog has separation anxiety. If you considering purchasing 2 puppies/dogs at the same time I would also be very careful. Despite having to do twice the training, 2 puppies often bond a lot to each other. This sounds like a good thing in that they are less likely to have separation anxiety when you leave, however they often bond so much with each other that they have bad anxiety when they are separated. If you do decide to get 2 puppies at the same time, then make sure you separate them a lot so their bond is primarily to you and not each other.
