Most insurance companies sell policies that cover a six-month or one-year period.
But, you might want to contact the carrier for your family car. They might agree to add the Toyota for a month or so. This would mean an extra premium charged to your policy, but it should be fairly minor. Then again, they might not be able to do such a thing. If that's the case, you could approach another carrier, buy a six-month liability policy for the Toyota, and have the payments set up on a monthly basis. Then you'd just pay the first month and let the policy lapse. The problem with this, of course, is that you'd eventually run out of new carriers over the years, and there's a slight possibility that your credit rating could be affected. So, probably not the best approach unless you're desperate and can't locate a carrier -- including your own -- who will help you out. And by "desperate" I mean that it's always preferable to have insurance on the truck as opposed to risking an accident without coverage. Another option: Sell the Toyota and simply go to U-Haul or Home Depot and rent a truck for the annual trip. At most you'll pay $75.00 for the day, including insurance, and at the end of the day, you get to drop the thing off and not have to worry about maintenance or the Toyota taking up parking space.

Car model and year the car was acquired are just some of the factors affecting car insurance quotes. There are many other things that affects the price.
Your insurance can vary based on quite a few variables, not just the cost of a car. I would request a quote from an insurance agent for a more precise quote.

There is no set price for car insurance for an 18 year old. The amount will be determined by the car insurance company, and the person's driving record.
A 17 year old can get a temporary car insurance, but it will cost quite a fortune.
There is no time of the year that is better than another when it comes to purchasing car insurance. No matter what time of year you purchased the car insurance will have to pay the same yearly, or semi-yearly premium. However if you are about to purchase a vehicle, or if you have just received a vehicle as a gift it would be better for you to purchase car insurance before you start to drive your vehicle. Driving your vehicle without car insurance is irresponsible.
