Unless there are special circumstances, 18. The state's legal age of majority is 18. That's when you're considered a legal adult and you can make all your own decisions. Illinois law does have grounds and procedures established for the petitioning of emancipation rights. (750 ILCS 30/Emancipation of Minors Act.) In some cases a minor can be legally emancipated. You would want to contact a family lawyer in IL to ask about this. At 17 you may be about to go to court and prove that you can support yourself. Without being emancipated, you can't leave home without the consent of your parent or guardian until you are 18-years-old.
