People have always managed to get married "in secret". You simply need to determine the requirements for a legal marriage in your jurisdiction, get legally married and not announce it to anyone. Generally in the US, the couple can obtain a marriage license and then get married by a justice of the peace. They don't need to announce their marriage in the newspaper or to anyone. Each can go back home or to wherever they were living and carry on as before until they are ready to reveal their marital status.
You should inquire at your town or county clerk's office.

∙ 15y agoNo, in order for the marriage to be legal, it has to be registered with the licensing entity. The record is a legal record and is publicly available. In some places all marriages are published in the local papers. Without the license, the marriage is not valid. It doesn't have to be publicized, but it is going to be a matter of public record. yes it is called a private wedding no one but you and your mate knows about it <and you don't have to get divorced when it is over, as it is not official>

Honesty is always the best policy. If you try to hide the fact you are already married the lies will eventually catch up to you and you will have to sign the wedding registry at the church. Your husband and yourself should meet with both sets of parents and tell them the truth. The parents may be hurt that you both have kept it a secret because most parents want to see their son and daughter married. Once the shock is over then suggest that you have another wedding for their sake and see if they will agree to it. If not, at least the secret is out and you and your husband do not have to keep hiding the fact you are married. If you are 18 years of age you are no longer minors and can marry without the parents permission.
