Most medications for humans are the same for our pets, except generally a smaller dose. Safety depends more on the size of the dog and the strength of medication. Of course, always best to ask your veterinarian. I typically will cut a pill in 1/4ths for my dogs. They weight around 10lbs. The 1/4th is only a 2mg lunesta.

You can kill your dog by giving them medicine. Do not ever give your dog any medication unless a licensed veterinarian has instructed you to do so and has given you a safe drug dosage for that animals weight. I am a veterinary nurse and I have seen animals die because owners give their pet medicine that is not intended for animal use. Make sure you keep all medicines away from where your dog can reach.
