Technically you can. As in, it is physically possible. However, I wouldn't recommend it. If your hamster is in pain for whatever reason, I suggest you drop by your local vet.

Yes depending on what illness the hamster has they can give it medication but sometimes it doesnt work. If it is not in pain look after it well and be with it whilst it is still living but if it is in pain do the right thing and put it down.
