You want to give Demerol over about two minutes because it can cause a burning sensation if pushed too fast. Sometimes, if the NS is running at a slow enough rate, you can push the Demerol into a port further away from the patient, allowing the IV fluids to slowly carry the Demerol into your patient.

Just go get some pepto bismol Not sure about Pepto, though my mom used to give Riopan, but a doctor can prescribe a number things. Compazine, Phenergan, Anzemet, or Zofran. Over the Counter drugs available, most common is dramamine or dimehydrinate.
If patient is truly allergic to either Demerol or Fentanyl (i.e. anaphylaxis or anaphylactic shock), then give morphine. Both drugs mentioned above are synthetics, which are completely different family from morphine, which is an alkaloid. Hope this helps.
an injection into the muscle is called a Intramuscular injection or IM injection for short. These are the safest types of injections for people who are not certified to work with animals to give.
Demerol is known to cause nausea in most people who take it. Taking Promethazine with it reduces the nausea effect that the drug produces because it is an antimedic. There use to be a pill that had both medications in it called Mepergan Fortis but it is no longer manufactured. No idea why. Even though Mepergan is no longer available, most doctors that prescribe Demerol also prescribe Phenergan with it.
